Not only did the plants get refreshed for Spring but we got new pots!

it was a (much) later start than planned but the floors were all done by the time we were ready to open...

We've moved all the furniture, equipment and displays and now the tiled areas are ready for tomorrow's big clean...

New C lock®  slatwall®  systems have been installed in front of the service desk - don't they look noice !

Children's area changes

Moving the children's fiction shelving has opened up the carpeted area (making it look much bigger!)

Pause to celebrate

We took some time today to pause and celebrate our achievements over the last 12 months!
There were lots of images on the 'bragging wall' to remind us of the scope of changes...

coffee machine

Last week we finally had a self service coffee machine installed. Now customers can have a coffee while using the library.

Flipbacks

The new slatwall shelves are now being populated with materials as we get the acrylic holders. This necessitates the movement of parts of the collection together with display signs...

New staff, Brian, Lyn and Susan are now all on board!

workroom changes

We have moved Karla's old workstation, relocated the printer and bookshelf and cleared the access walkways - sweet!

Three areas have had slatwall shelving added today. Once we have the holders/shelving we can add the collections and display materials...

new garden

A new garden has been planted at the library's entrance (thanks to the good work of Nathan & co.). Hopefully it won't be long and the native plants will be established and growing well!

NSS

This 'special' storytime session was delivered at Seaford this morning but we didn't get the numbers we were expecting. Due to the rain, participants from local schools cancelled (at the last minute). Still, those who were there did enjoy the session!

and Kelly makes three

Kelly has been successful in obtaining the ILC position at Noarlunga making it three staff vacancies at Seaford. Looks like recruiting time!

garden

The old garden is going... going...gone

and soon we will have a new one!

power outage

We were down for about an hour yesterday and had to evacuate all our customers. No power meant that 'everything' was down; no air con, no lights, no computers, etc...

just goes to show how reliant we are on electricity!

staff are leaving

First, we had Daff resign and head off for a new life in Roxby Downs (or, as she calls it, RoxVegas!) and now we have Rachel leaving for a new life working at a university...

The first Family Disco was held at Seaford library last night and it was a big hit! Lots of lil' groovers doing their thing on the dance floor (with mums and dads dancin' along too)...

Now that we have the acrylic holders the graphic novels can be put up on the shelves. We only have enough for some of the series but it gives us a good idea of how it will look (and how many more holders or shelves we will require).

One of the 'gains' of the new staff rostering system (on trial now) is the tidiness of the books/materials on shelves - case in point is the photo (above) of the medical/health section... nice!

We've had 'community consultation' in the library and now a massive info sign...

storytelling

Storyteller Ruth Carson captivated the students of Seaford 6-12 school with her stories and description of the practice of storytelling.

The art of storytelling is 'alive and well' and it was well appreciated by all who attended today!

library fumigation

Late yesterday afternoon the library was fumigated (using poisonous atmosphere Pyrethrin) to address the 'bug' issue. This morning there is only a faint odour and we have the doors open and the air conditioning and air filters all going...

Pam Davis of The Gallery Spinners was in the library demonstrating 'the gentle art of wool spinning' for the Art of Living festival.

Art of Living

Clarissa Tetzlaff performed at the library as part of the Art of Living festival. A skilled harpist (having played the harp from the age of 6) Clarissa created a special atmosphere that was enjoyed by all.
